1979 Cotton Bowl Chicken Soup Game

1979 NOTRE DAME VS. HOUSTON (CHICKEN SOUP GAME)

$24.95

Forever known as the Chicken Soup game, Joe Montana's legend was born as he led Notre Dame's Fighting Irish to an incredible comeback in below zero wind chill conditions in what many consider the greatest Cotton Bowl, and one of the best college football games ever played. Montana was fed chicken soup at halftime in an effort to bring his body temperature up as he was suffering from hypothermia on that freezing Dallas day. After sitting out the first two offensive series of the second half, Montana re-entered the game with 4:40 remaining in the third quarter. The Houston Cougers held a commanding 34 - 12 lead with 7:37 remaining in the fourth quarter and felt so assured of a victory they substituted their backups into the game. Then the impossible happened.
